Gaylord Entertainment Co. (NYSE: GET) and Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) have come to an agreement over the management of Gaylord's self-branded hotels.

The Nashville-based company will hand over operation of its four large hotels to hospitality giant Marriott with headquarters in Bethesda. The company which also owns several brands including the Ritz Carlton, based in Chevy Chase; will add the Gaylord Hotels brand to its portfolio for $210 million.

While the nation's capital continued its usual lead in office space construction, another surprise quarter occurred with the Maryland National Capital region leading the surrounding region.

According to March data from the Bethesda, Mid-Atlantic regional office of Transwestern and its research subsidiary, Alexandria-based Delta Associates, there was an estimated 7,204,726 square feet of office space under construction or reconstruction in the D.C. area.

federal government allowed 96 percent of the office space under construction in the Maryland National Capital Region to be pre-leased

With a big help from the federal government, Maryland's "economic engine", Montgomery County, has managed to lead all jurisdictions outside the district in office space construction -- with nearly all of Montgomery County's primary office markets participating.

The latest data from Transwestern Mid-Atlantic with headquarters in Bethesda, shows office space construction in the county stands at nearly 2 million square feet, that puts it ahead of surrounding area jurisdictions including Fairfax and Arlington counties in Virginia.

National Harbor, the mixed-use development that became an overnight success continues to diversify and expand with the addition of a brand-new apartment project.

The Bozzuto Group and The Peterson Companies teamed up to announce in late 2010, plans to develop an apartment building at the $4 Billion National Harbor along the Potomac River in Prince George's county. Now more details of the project have surfaced.

Baltimore-based Under Armour Inc (NYSE:UA) rose passed $68 a share in afternoon trading, subsequent to staying below Friday's close for most of the trading day. Many local stocks were in negative territory during the September 6th trading session continuing a downward trend from Friday's overall session slump based on virtually zero job creation in the U.S. economy. The markets were closed on September 5th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

Virginia and Maryland were amongst the 28 states that the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said had their jobless rates increase in July 2011. Along with D.C., the jurisdictions with jobless rate increases totaled 29.

The bureau also said nine states had rate decreases and 13 had virtually zero change in their unemployment rate.

But Maryland and Virginia posted small rate increases while the District of Columbia showed a rate change that was much higher than in June 2011.

After huge swings in the stock market over the last several days, management at companies in the area find it a good time to stock up

AvalonBay Communities, Inc.  (NYSE:AVB),  Chairman of the Board, Bryce Blair, accumulated almost 18,000 shares through various transactions between the August 9th and 10th.

All-in-all the Chairman of one of the largest multifamily developers in the D.C. area, made transactions (acquiring and disposing) totaling 35,800 shares of Arlington-based AvalonBay stock and got in as low as $48.60.

Rockville-based Washington Real Estate Investment Trust (WRIT) (NYSE: WRE) is aiming for a higher quality portfolio to appease shareholders.

The 16 property industrial portfolio will be dumped through deals consisting of five separate transactions totaling $350 Million—to be completed by the end of the year.

The Peterson Companies announced several new retailers that are coming to the D.C. areas largest private mixed-use development. Over the next several months the $4 billion National Harbor project along the Potomac River will add five new stores. But the allure of National Harbor is enough pull some retailers across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and open up shop.

The Board of Directors of Bowie-based Old Line Bancshares, Inc. (Nasdaq:OLBK) have voted to increase the quarterly dividend to common shareholders.

On November 17, 2011, the Board declared a fourth quarter cash dividend increase of 33 percent. In the previous quarter shareholders received a cash dividend of $0.03 cents per common share, with the increase shareholders will now receive a cash dividend of $0.04 cents per common share or up $0.01 cents.

National security federal contractor, ManTech International Corporation (NASDAQ: MANT) reported that it has completed the acquisition of Seabrook, MD-based Worldwide Information Network Systems for $90 Million in cash.

The announcement for Mantech to purchase the Prince George's County global information technology firm was made less than a month ago on October 27, 2011.
