The Fillmore is official in Silver Spring. The highly debated music hall which was funded by $8 million from Montgomery County and the State of Maryland Governments is almost complete with workers putting on the finishing touches.
The exclusive Fillmore Music Hall is the only one in the D.C. area and one of the few intimate indoor venues that is specifically designed to host national and local performances. The historic J.C. Penny property at 8656 Colesville Road was donated by Lee Development group and will be operated by Live Nation.
With media giant Discovery Communications, American Film Institute, Round House Theatre and now the Fillmore all on the same road and within walking distance of each other; the synergy forming between the organizations has solidified Silver Spring as the media epicenter of the D.C. area.
The Silver Spring Fillmore will open its doors September 15, 2011 with its first performance featuring renowned R&B artist Mary J. Blige. Other performances include John Legend September 17th. Famous comedian and Silver Spring native Lewis Black will perform at a sold out show October 23, 2011.
