Rockville Town Center is continuing to take shape with a much needed office project breaking ground in Montgomery County's seat of operations.

Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH) will move 400 employees from 10750 Columbia Pike in Silver Spring to Rockville Metro Plaza II at 121 Rockville Pike, under a 15 year lease. The project is being developed, managed and owned by Foulger-Pratt.

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT), Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) and Tognum America, Inc, were awarded as a group -- a $439.7 Million contract from the U.S. Army.

The team of federal defense contracts will work on the Technology Development (TD) phase of the U.S. Army's Ground Combat Vehicle(GCV) Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) program. It is expected that the results will produce affordable and effective Infantry Fighting Vehicle within a time-frame of seven years.

Bethesda-based First Potomac Realty Trust (NYSE:FPO) announced that it has completed a lease transaction with DRS Defense Solutions, LLC to take space at Redland Corporate Center II in Rockville.

DRS, a technology defense contractor, will occupy 23,033 square feet, taking the entire ninth floor of the 210,862 square-foot Redland Corporate Center II. The company is anticipated to move in from its Bethesda office by March 2012 on a five-year term lease.

A $46 million contract has been awarded to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

TSA, an agency part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has tasked SAIC with the responsibility of hazardous materials management and disposal services. The services provided will include training programs, treatment storage, and disposal of hazardous waste that will total more than $1.5 million pounds per year.

The company would be absorbed into General Dynamics Land Systems unit

Defense contractor General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) will pay a 31 percent premium for a Summerville, South Carolina firm that specializes in survivability products including armored vehicles.

Shareholders of both Falls Church-based General Dynamics and Force Protection, Inc. (NASDAQ: FRPT) have agreed to a purchase price of $5.52 per Force Protection shares which would come to approximate total of $360 million. The board of directors from both companies has already approved the deal.

The United States Navy has Awarded Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) a prime single-award contract with a value of more than $42 million to support the United States Fleet Forces Command (USFF). The USFF supports the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) and Combatant Commanders worldwide.

The six-month period of performance, four one-month options contract will allow SAIC to render operational and tactical support to the USFF and associated fleet commands.

Bethesda-based First Potomac Realty Trust (NYSE: FPO) has signed its second large lease this month, this time at the Atlantic Corporate Park in Sterling, Virginia. The properties at 45600 & 45610 Woodland Road consist of two Class-A, 4-story office buildings built in 2008.

General Dynamics C4 will provide services for the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW) Software which will allow the U.S. military send large amounts of data of its network at fast speeds.

Falls Church-based General Dynamics' (NYSE: GD)  Land Systems Unit said it won two combined contracts to conduct work on behalf of the Royal Saudi Land Forces.

The contracts -- awarded by the U.S. Army TACOM Lifecycle Management Command -- is a continuation of a plan to upgrade the entire fleet of Abrams tanks for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Mclean, Va., defense contractor Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) won a follow-on contract for work on ammunition operations and to provide maintenance services to the Department of Defense.

The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) and the work will be conducted in Chambersburg, Pa., Alexandria, Va., and Huntsville, Ala.

Under the agreement,SAIC services will help the National Level Ammunition Capability operations by integrating new technology to improve activities for joint military operations.

The real estate investment trust declared a much larger net income than the three months quarter ended June 30, 2010 

Total revenues reported by Bethesda based First Potomac Realty Trust (NYSE: FPO) for the second quarter of 2011 ended June 30, 2011, amounted to $42.8 Million.

The real estate investment trust declared a much larger net income than the three months quarter ended June 30, 2010 but still below the million dollar level. Net income came to $752,000 versus $33,000 in 2010. Including noncontrolling interests First Potomac Realty Trust's profit was $817,000.

Bethesda based Eagle Bancorp, Inc (Nasdaq:EGBN)has entered into an agreement with the United StatesSecretary of the Treasury to receive funding that will aid small businesses.

The parent of Eagle Bank issued 56,000 shares of Senior Non-Cumulative, Series B Preferred Stock with a  value of $1,000 per share.

The Series B shares were exchanged for $56,600,000 towards the United StatesSmall Business Lending Fund program.

The Gables Upper Rock is the next phase in the Upper Rock master planned community.   

A joint venture between USAA Real Estate Company and Gables Residential, the two have teamed up to complete the Class A multi-family apartment project which will consist of 281 units in eight stories. Of those units, six will be live and work spaces.
